Gerald Sampson

January 1, 1958 — August 17, 2017

Gerald Max Sampson, 58, of Creamton entered the gates of Heaven on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at home, after a long illness.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, the former Karen Rutledge.

Born December 3, 1958 in Hancock, NY, he was the son of the late Gerald and Renate (Frishholtz) Sampson.

After graduating from Honesdale High School in 1977, Jerry was employed at S. J. Bailey & Sons for 28 years until their time of closure.  He worked his way up from an Assembler to the New Product Engineer.  After the closure of Bailey's Jerry attended and graduated from Luzerne County Community College, which he was very proud to accomplish at that point in his life.  Upon receiving his HVAC certification from LCCC, he went on to work for T.E. Spall & Son as an HVAC installer for four years.  Always an industrious and meticulous man, known by all as someone who could build or fix anything, Jerry went on to work in maintenance at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center for seven years up until his time of illness.

Jerry loved the Lord and strived to bring Him glory.  This was especially evident in the last year of his life as he faced severe health struggles while clinging to his faith. Jerry will be remembered for his tremendous love and commitment to his wife, daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren.  Spending time with family was Jerry's greatest joy in life, this side of heaven.  Jerry had a great fondness and appreciation for all aspects of nature and the outdoors, viewing it all as God's beautiful creation.  He was a dedicated member of the Aldenville Baptist Church and was always eager to share Christ's love with everyone he came in contact with.

Jerry is also survived by his loving daughter, Jamie Myers and her husband Bradford of Damascus; three grandchildren, Silas, Eliza, and Laurel; siblings, Josef Sampson of Florida, Sieglinde Rogers and her husband James of Wellfleet, MA, and Richard Sampson of Honesdale; and several nieces and nephews.

All are welcome to a time of visitation on Friday, August 25, 2017 from 1-3 and 5-7 PM at the Aldenville Baptist Church, 971 Creek Drive, (Aldenville), Prompton, PA 18456.

A private Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jerry's memory to the Aldenville Baptist Church.  In Jerry's memory his family also encourages everyone to take a moment to recognize and appreciate God's amazing creation.

Private interment will be in Aldenville Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Jenkins Funeral Home-Edward Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472.  www.JenkinsHowellFuneralHome.com
