Katherine Smith

January 1, 1988 — November 14, 2022

Katherine Jennifer Smith April 29, 1988 – November 14, 2022 It is with a heavy heart and unmeasurable sadness that we announce the death of our 34-year-old daughter Katie. She battled metastatic colon cancer, diagnosed 22 months ago. She is survived by her parents, Gary Smith of Union Dale Pennsylvania, Diana Smith of Langhorne PA, and her stepparents Kim and Lance. She is also survived by four siblings, her sister Chelsea Perez, her brother Jason Smith and his wife Jillian, her brother Jared Smith and his fiancé Alyssa, and her Sister Aubrey Hunt and her husband Ryan. In addition, she is also survived by Grandmothers, Caroline Walker and Kathleen Smith, and 6 beautiful nieces and nephews. Katie grew up in Pennington New Jersey and went on to graduate magna cum laude with a degree in vocal jazz from The Frost School of Music at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. After graduation she moved to New York and began interning for Indaba, a music tech company which led to her first job. She stayed with them until she transitioned to Splice, where she remained, working and excelling despite her health challenges. She loved her Splice family and was extremely fulfilled by her work and the relationships she formed. As a talented singer and song writer she wrote and recorded her music and performed countless shows throughout lower Manhattan and Brooklyn under the name Lewis Lane. One of her first reviews from the New York music community says it all; “The minute you hear Katherine Smith’s voice, you just can’t move away. It’s one of the rare voices that sounds like singing comes as naturally to her as breathing”. The word light is consistently being used to describe Katie. Her smile was infectious. Everyone she met was drawn towards her positive energy. This was reflected by the unwavering love and support offered by everyone around her. Kate had so many loyal friends who walked alongside her, keeping her company during chemotherapy, radiation and surgeries. Shortly after her diagnosis Katie found The Red Door Community. The Red Door Community is a support organization whose motto is “Where no one faces cancer alone”. She was actively involved in navigating through the cancer world alongside the many personal connections she made through The Red Door. She was featured at a major Red Door Community gala and was later asked to be a member speaker at their annual Celebrating Women Benefit. She lit up the room and had her audience laughing and crying. Katie was courageous. She remained fiercely independent and continued to live every moment to the fullest in spite of all the challenges associated with battling cancer. Katie did it her way. She traveled, attended many weddings and social events, and spent quality time with friends and family. Donations can be made in her honor to The Red Door Community. https://reddoorcommunity.org Her voice lives on forever through her music.
