Willy Niedt, 79, of Honesdale died Thursday morning, January 12, 2017 at Wayne Memorial Hospital after an illness. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Barbara Kneuer.
Born April 4, 1937 in Germany, he was the son of the late William and Hilda (Pommeranz) Niedt.
Willy was an outgoing and lovable father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He owned and operated Village Iron Works for 25 years. He was always sure to put a smile on anyone’s face. He spent most of his time keeping his grandchildren occupied and playing pranks on anyone he could.
He is survived by a daughter: Anita Decker and her husband Chris of Honesdale; and a son: Randy Niedt and his wife Jennifer of Georgia; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a large extended family.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter: Hilda Schmitt, and a son: Willy Niedt, Jr.
Memorial Services will be held on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. in the Grace Episcopal Church in Honesdale with Rev. William Rushik officiating.
Following the church service on Monday, friends and family are invited to a gathering at Willy and Barbara’s home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Willy’s memory to Wayne Memorial Hospital, 601 Park Street, Honesdale, PA 18431.
