Walter S. Janushevich, 64, of Lake Ariel passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Saturday evening, July 1, 2017 at home. He is survived by his beloved wife of more than 35 years, Linda (Garrett) Janushevich. Born May 28, 1953 in Dearborn, Michigan, Walter was the son of Anna (Skarupka) Janushevich of Mount Arlington, NJ and the late Alexander Janushevich. Walter was a member of the Russian Orthodox Church of America. He served in the United States Navy from 1971-1975 and was a disabled veteran of the Vietnam War. He went on to work for the Department of the Navy and retired in May of 2008 after 31 years of federal service. Walter was a member of St. George’s Pathfinders scouting organization. He was also a range safety officer and enjoyed teaching others gun safety. He often enjoyed traveling and cruising with his wife. Above all, he will be remembered as a kind and loving husband, father, and son. Walter is also survived by a son, Nicholas Janushevich (Nicole); two sisters, Elain Fritze (Richard), Elizabeth Mizrahi (Scott); a brother, Alexis Janushevich (Peggy); his godmother, Valentina Zacharin; and several nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. in Jenkins Funeral Home – Edward Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472 with the St. Tikhon’s Russian Orthodox Church Monastery clergy officiating. A viewing for friends and family will be held on Wednesday from 9:00 A.M.until the time of service in the funeral home. The Burial Service will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. in Novo Diveevo Russian Orthodox Convent and Cemetery, 100 Smith Road, Nanuet, NY 10954. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Walter’s memory to Lake Ariel Volunteer Fire Company, 1381 Lake Ariel Highway, Lake Ariel, PA 18436. Interment will be Thursday in Novo Diveevo Cemetery, Nanuet, NY.
