Vladimer "Lum" Kellachow, Sr.

Vladimer "Lum" Kellachow Sr., 89, of South Canaan passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, June 6, 2023 at Wayne Memorial Hospital after an illness. His beloved wife of more than 62 years, the former Mary Vaverchak, survives him. 

Born at home on the family farm in South Canaan on May 24, 1934, he was the son of the late Peter and Mary (Guzey) Kellachow.

Lum was a graduate of Waymart High School. He later served his country in the United States Air Force until his Honorable Discharge. Lum and Mary were joined in marriage on October 8, 1960 and worked together to raise their family while instilling the values of hard work and integrity. He owned and operated his family dairy farm for many years until his retirement. For the next thirteen years, he then drove bus for Lynch Bus Tours, enjoying traveling the country and meeting many new people. Lum was an avid airman and earned his private and commercial pilot's licenses which enabled him to experience many hours in the air. He also enjoyed remote control airplanes and was a contributor and supporter of Waymart Wings.

Lum's family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Carbondale Nursing Home, Wayne Memorial Hospital Intensive Care Unit, Dr. Sandra Cosklo, Wayne Memorial Hospice and Karon Shaffer, RN. 

He is also survived by two daughters: Tanya Miller of South Canaan and Lisa Skold and her husband Keith of South Canaan; five grandchildren: Hope, Stephen, Anastasia, Skyler, and Vladimer III; six great-grandchildren: Jayden, Raelyn, Olyvea, Lorelei, Raurie, and Axel; a granddaughter-in-law, Diane Kellachow; and a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Kellachow.

Lum was also preceded in death by his son, Vladimer Kellachow Jr.; a grandson, Justin Kellachow; and a son-in-law, Douglas Miller.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. in The Waymart Church, 596 Honesdale Road, Waymart, PA 18472 with Pastor Sal Maiorana officiating.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, June 8 from 4-7 PM in The Waymart Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made in Lum's memory to The Waymart Church, 596 Honesdale Road, Waymart, PA 18472.

Interment will be in East Canaan Cemetery, South Canaan, PA.
