Violet E. Hauenstein

Violet E. Hauenstein, 98, of Aldenville went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 15, 2020. Born on November 25, 1922 in Curtis Valley, she was the daughter of the late Ensign and Verna (Curtis) Varcoe, she was the wife of the late David Hauenstein, Jr. They were married for 67 years. She is survived by three children, David III and his wife Barbara (Sheard) Hauenstein, James and his wife Ruth (Richner) Hauenstein, and Leonard and his wife Beth (Gardner) Hauenstein; 8 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Violet was also preceded in death by one sister, Eunice Hauenstein; two brother-in-laws, Dwight Hauenstein and Gordon Hauenstein. Violet graduated from Forest City High School in 1939, after attending a one room school in Curtis Valley. She graduated from Mansfield Teacher’s College and later earned a Master’s degree from the University of Scranton. Violet taught High School for over 30 years; the first 3 in Port Allegany, and the remainder in Browndale, South Clinton, Aldenville, and Honesdale. She is remembered fondly by the many lives she touched of the students throughout the years in the classroom. Violet helped on the family farm and loved gardening and especially her flowers. She was a member of the Aldenville Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, Bible School, and was active in the Women’s Mission Society and the Kumjoinus class. She was a most caring and loving woman who was ready to help anyone, and was loved by all who knew her. The family wishes to thank all the caregivers and staff at Ellen Memorial for their love and care for the past two years. There will be a private graveside service at the Riverdale Cemetery with a memorial service planned in the spring.
