V. Rev. Paul Stephen Fedec, age 91, of Centennial, CO fell asleep in the Lord on Tuesday, April 5, 2022. He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Presbytushka Gloria, and 4 children; Paula (Art) Stewart, Larissa Buckley, Daria (Tom) Ladtkow, and Peter Fedec. He was blessed with 7 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Fr. Paul served many Eastern Orthodox Christian Communities during his 70 years as a priest. Including 36 years at Saint Mary's Orthodox Church in Calhan, Colorado. After his many years serving St. Mary's in Calhan, he attempted retirement, but it wasn't long before he was assigned as an interim Priest to the start-up parish of St. Elias in Denver, CO, of the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese. After several years of establishing a strong foundation for St. Elias, and they were able to assign a permanent Priest, Fr. Paul then turned his attention to St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church in Greenwood Village, Colorado; it is here he spent the remaining 20 years spiritually serving parishioners at St. Catherine.
During his years in Colorado, Fr. Paul also held a secular position at Martin Marietta Aerospace as a Financial Executive, and after 36 years he retired from that career, but still continued to serve in the priesthood. With a bit more free time, he was able to spend that time with one of his special interests flying. He was an avid private pilot, with an instrument rating, and loved flying his favorite airplane, N9942Q.
He was active as a Scoutmaster with the B.S.A., and even into retirement he guided and counseled youth. He also spent many years as a Soccer Coach. This interest came about when he was growing up in Philadelphia, his nickname was "Feet".
Fr. Paul was born March 1, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA to Stephen A. and Martha (Chupeck) Fedec. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Anastasia Leon, and a brother, Dr. Stephen S. Fedec. He is also survived by his brother, V. Rev. Alexis W. Fedec (retired), Kenosha, WI.
Always an avid learner, Fr. Paul Fedec emersed himself in many studies. It was at this time as he began his studies at St. Tikhon's Theological Seminary that he met Gloria Kiehart, who would eventually become his bride. That happened on June 9, 1951. Newly married and finishing his studies at the seminary, Fr. Paul received his diploma on May 30, 1952, and soon after was ordained into the holy priesthood in 1953.
Other areas of his educational pursuits also included receiving a Master of Arts in Economic History from the University of Colorado in 1967, and then later a Master of Business Administration from Colorado State University in 1977.
Fr. Paul's funeral will be Monday, April 11, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Saint Catherine Greek Orthodox Church, Greenwood Village, CO. He will be interned at Saint Tikhon's Orthodox Monastery in South Canaan, PA at a later date.
