Thomas Grant White, 88, of Waymart passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on January 22, 2024 and entered into the presence of his Lord. He was preceded in death by his wife Wansley Bishop White.
Born in 1935, Tom was the son of the late Lester and Doretta White. Tom was a graduate of Waymart High School and then joined the Army serving in Korea just after the Korean War. He held a number of jobs throughout the years including being a welder and working with Animal Nutrition- a job he held until his death.
Tom will always be remembered for his kindness, honesty, hard work and his devotion to his family who were his pride and joy. Tom instilled the same values that he lived by in his children and grandchildren. Like his father before him- Tom lived out the words of Micah 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8
In recent years, he loved cooking and serving dinner for the family at a weekly dinner. He was an avid golfer and could often be found on a golf course with his friends, Bob Bonham and Gerry Getz. He loved playing cards; especially, horse and pepper. He loved the many dogs he had throughout the years. Tom loved this country and our veterans and he was an active attender of men's group at The Waymart Church. Tom was also a member of the American Legion, Waymart Masonic Lodge 542, and the Memorial Links and Waymart Golf Leagues.
Tom is survived by his children: Kathi White (Dan), Rich White (Nancy), and Tom White (Kelly); grandchildren: Daniel White (Blair), Sara Sonnekalb (Rob), Amy Scott (Chris), Tim White, Carli White, Alicia Boguski (Josh); great-grandchildren: Jordan, Hunter and Skylar Sonnekalb, Braelynn and Tommy John Boguski, and Gracelynn Scott; his brother, Charles White (Jane); and many special nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his sisters and brothers: Betty Robinson, Helene Skates, Donald White, Robert White; his niece, Sandy Robinson Weaver; and a special friend, Connie Wilmot.
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 27th at 1:00 P.M. in The Waymart Church, 596 Honesdale Road, Waymart, PA 18472 with Pastor Sal Maiorana officiating.
A Masonic Funeral Service will be held in the church on Saturday at 12:45 P.M. immediately preceding the funeral.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday from 11:30 A.M. -12:45 P.M. in the church.
Interment with military honors will be in Clinton Center Cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Tom's memory to The Waymart Church, 596 Honesdale Road, Waymart, PA 18472. The family would like to thank Pastor Sal Maiorana and the congregation for the love and support they have provided during this difficult time.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing. 2 Timothy 4:6-7
Arrangements are entrusted to Howell Family Funeral Home, Inc., Edward R. Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA.
