Susie M. Carney

Susie M. Carney, 60, of Honesdale Borough died Friday morning, November 11, 2016 at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton after an illness. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Thomas N. Carney on October 2, 2015. Born November 13, 1955 in Selma, Alabama, she was the daughter of Joseph Daniel Araujo of Fairhaven, Massachusetts and the late Latha Absher-Green. Susie was a member of the Waymart American Legion Post 889 Women's Auxiliary and a volunteer for the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program. Prior to retirement, she worked at the Waymart Knitwear and Cozy Corners Personal Care Home in Seelyville. Susie was most known by her family and friends for her amazing cooking and baking talents. She was affectionately called "Grummy" by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four children: Victoria Durst and her husband Steve of Crownsville, Maryland, Tammy Emmett and her husband Joe of Carbondale, Scott Carney and his wife Kelly of Equinunk, and Sean Carney of Brentwood, New York; nine grandchildren: Kiersten Durst, Cassondra Harris, Kattie Sue James, Tyler Carney, Kayla Emmett, Tamera Carney, Hailey Carney, Austin Carney, and Walker Carney; four great-grandchildren; three brothers: Barry Araujo and his wife Marcia of Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts, Mark Araujo and his wife Susan of Helena, Alabama, Tony Araujo of Helena, Alabama; a sister: Barbara Renoir and her husband Norman of North Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Many nieces & nephews. She was also preceded in death by her sister: Patsy Reis; two brothers: Arthur Araujo, and Joseph Araujo; and her mother-in-law, Florence Welles. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Jenkins Funeral Home-Edward Howell, FD, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472 with Betty Ellen Barrett officiating. Friends may visit on Monday, November 14, 2016 from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Following cremation, graveside committal services will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at The Waymart Cemetery at Canaan Corners, Owego Turnpike, Waymart, PA 18472 with Betty Ellen Barrett officiating.
