Stephen Vasey

Stephen E. Vasey, 63, of Clinton Township, Waymart, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at home of natural causes.

Born July 20, 1960 in Scranton, he was the son of the late Stephen C. and Eleanor F. (Supinski) Vasey.

Steve was a 1978 graduate of Manville High School in Manville, NJ. He went on to earn an Associates Degree in diesel technology from Linn Benton Community College in Oregon.

Steve was a racing enthusiast and loved everything about it from race cars to racetracks. He helped to build and also raced at several local racetracks including Penn Cann and Bethel Speedway. For a time, he was a driving instructor at Pocono Raceway for the stock car "Racing Experience." Steve cherished his close friendship with the Grimm family and made many fond memories with Grimm Racing and working at Grimm Construction for several years.

Steve was a kind and giving man who would do anything for anyone. He enjoyed driving friends, family, and countless others to and from airports, medical appointments and anywhere in between. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, attending car shows and Trivia Nights at Jake's Elk Lake Tavern. Elk Lake was a very special place to Steve and his family and he enjoyed taking care of his home there.

Steve will be remembered for his love of animals, especially his dogs Leo and Mogley. His passion for music and listening to vinyl records will never be forgotten. Steve loved going to concerts and listening to the music he loved at every opportunity. His kindness and gentle spirit will never be forgotten; this world is a better place because Steve was in it.

He is survived by two sisters: Stepheny Rush and her husband Stanton of Waymart, PA, and Cheryl Katen and her husband Paul of Oregon; a brother-in-law, Robert Whiteford of Paducah, KY; a niece, Dr. Sarah Whiteford and her husband Darryl Fineout; a nephew, Stanton D.
