It is with great sadness that the family of Sharon Lee Thompson Knickerbocker announces the passing of their beloved wife, sister, aunt and friend. Sharon passed away at home, in the arms of her devoted husband.
She was born on the fourth of July in 1948. At the age of 76, Sharon spent the last few months of her life recovering from hip and brain surgery as well as courageously battling lung cancer. Her husband of 57 years, Arthur Knickerbocker, was by her side every day and worked tirelessly to ensure she had everything she needed during this difficult time.
Sharon was a 1966 graduate of Honesdale High School. She was a member of the Lady Hornets basketball team, that won a state championship her senior year. In the early years, Sharon worked for Katz underwear factory, and with a desire to transition to the business office, she traveled to California and took courses to gain knowledge in that field. After the factory shut down, she transitioned to Woodloch Pines where she worked in Hospitality Management. In 1996, Sharon found her forever job working in the business offices of the Wayne Memorial Hospital. She worked there for 28 years and gave her all, up until her recent illness. She truly enjoyed working with the office staff and considered them family.
In her free time, Sharon enjoyed spending time with her loving husband, Art, and family. They were a perfect match and loved and supported each other through all of life's ups and downs. At one point in their lives, she did all she could to love and support him through colon cancer. Sharon and Art loved to frequent local restaurants where they enjoyed a meal, while also making many friends. They also liked traveling and one of her favorites was a visit to see her sister Alice in Virginia. Sharon loved a nice clean vehicle and enjoyed driving her Yukon Denali. Sharon loved to sew when she was younger and was an avid reader and always kept up with modern technology. She continued to read books, but transitioned to a kindle in recent years. Sharon and Art loved to spend time with their family during various holidays and celebrations. There was always lots of great conversation and laughing when together. In the earlier years, there are memories of Sunday dinners, walks in the cemetery, or down to the Bethany Park, spending time on the Lake, swimming together and shopping trips. Sharon was always fashionable in her pressed look due to her love for nice things. Going to the casino and kayaking were also hobbies they enjoyed together or just sitting on the porch and chatting with their wonderful neighbors. The irony of her birthday was that she truly lived up to being an Independence Day baby, right up to the end. True to the definition of a firecracker, she was outstanding, exciting, attractive and was also known to be loud and very strong in opinion.
Sharon is survived by her husband Arthur Knickerbocker; sister Alice Mullen and Bob of Fredericksburg Virginia; Kelly Benarick and Gene, Jake and Colin of Eagleville, PA; Emmy Lieser and Dr. John, Avery and Jack of Stafford, Virginia; Mikaela and Summer Tighe of Honesdale; Aunt Tammy Thompson of Honesdale, many Thompson cousins; and cousin, Rozalyn Spry of Kansas City, Missouri; Sister-in-law, Susan Knickerbocker of Honesdale; Kari Canfield and Todd, Kaelin, Ethan, Charolotte, and Owen Anderson, Gavin, Olivia, Lauren and Madison of Honesdale; Marci Jones and Jerry, Alexa and Samuel of Honesdale; and Lori Knickerbocker of South Carolina, Emma, Dakota and Ruth Lent of Honesdale, and Evan Wilcox and fiancé Hayley McElroy of Honesdale; Cousins Judy (Arthur) Shinoski, Fred and Freddy of California; and Michelle (Arthur) Cerra and Joe, Brian, Jenn and children of upstate NY.
