Scott D. Rush, lovingly known as "Buddha," 51, of Waymart passed away Sunday evening, March 17, 2024 at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton after an illness. Born August 8, 1972 in Plainfield, New Jersey, he was the youngest son of his devoted and loving parents Stanton D. and Stepheny Vasey Rush of Waymart.
Scott was a 1991 graduate of Western Wayne High School where he was an outstanding athlete. He played center on the football team and was a renowned wrestler. Scott was the first student from Western Wayne to earn a Division 1 wrestling scholarship. He went on to study and wrestle at Wagner College and Luzerne County Community College where he earned an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice. He was employed as a recovery agent for 28 years.
Scott was recently inducted into the Wayne County Sports Hall of Fame. This honor meant so much to him. He was also an active member in the Waymart Masonic Lodge and loved his fraternal family deeply. Scott had a larger than life personality and went out of his way to help others. Anyone could feel the warmth of his love in a single hug.
Scott was a life-sized teddy bear to his beloved wife and best friend of twenty years, the former Megan E. Lewis. Together they had two children, Mason Scott and Tanner Davis. Scott was tremendously proud of his two sons whom he loved more than anything in this world. Being their dad was by far the greatest accomplishment and gift of Scott's entire life. He was so proud of his boys and would do anything for them. Scott passed on his fierce loyalty, ability to "tell a story," laugh at everything, appropriate or not, and of course, his "I won't quit" attitude.
In addition, Scott is survived by life-long best friend and partner in crime brother, Stanton Rush and his wife Libby and their three amazing children that he took pleasure in playfully harassing, Stanton, Elise, and Carson and his Uncle, Steve Vasey who took every chance to treat him like a brother instead of a nephew. Also surviving are his brother-in-law John Lewis; sister-in-laws Phaedra Hall and her daughter (the daughter he pretended to have) Makalin Hall; Starlah and her husband Mike Robbins; his in-laws Steve and Erika Hall; along with many loving cousins and extended family.
Scott's athletic nature, along with his love and commitment to his children and family fueled him to become a wrestling coach for the Junior Wildcats at Western Wayne. Giving back to this community and supporting local families was very important to Scott. He was a dedicated mentor who inspired integrity and passion in the lives of many. Because of this, Scott's legacy of love and service will never die.
Scott was fierce and determined in everything he set out to do in life. Dan Gable once said, "The first period is won by the best technician. The second period is won by the kid in the best shape. The third period is won by the kid with the biggest heart." Scott by far, had the biggest heart.
