Rose V. Roberts, 72, of Waymart passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning October 13th, 2021 at Allied Hospice in Scranton after a recent illness. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Frederick A. Roberts, who died on March 19, 2014. They were married on April 18,1970.
Born in Carbondale on March 5 1949, she was the daughter of the late Leonard L. Palko and Catherine A.(Savage) Palko of Waymart. She attended the First Baptist Church / The Waymart Church, before health issues deterred her, and was an integral part of the youth group function in its fledgling stages, which now flourishes at the Waymart Church.
Rose grew up on a farm just outside of Waymart, off of the Owego Turnpike. The daughter of a WW2 veteran, she knew the value of hard work and everything sacred, and always put her family first before her own self. She attended a one room schoolhouse for elementary learning before graduating from Waymart High School in 1967. She was employed for many years by Waymart Knitting Co. as a seamstress, before the company closed. Thereafter, she attended Lackawanna College and earned an AS in Business Administration. She graduated with that degree in 1990, the same year her son graduated high school. She was then employed by the Manor at Waymart - Spojnia, as Assistant Administrator, before retiring.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Rose enjoyed reading, watching Food Network and cooking. She was famous for her homemade potato salad, pigs in the blanket and pierogies. She also enjoyed spending time with her best friend Robin. A sweet smile from Rose would brighten up a room and make anyone's day better. She always remained optimistic through adversity in her own health battles. A victorious breast cancer survivor, she admirably dealt with the effects of chemo in later years. Her faith in Jesus was strong and carried her through each day, and her bible was always by her side.
Rose's gentle and caring nature embodied her in everything she did, and all she stood for. She always went out of her way to help others, gave to her various charities and was an extremely generous person. Her endearing love and care for her family, her son and especially her grandchildren, was paramount. She was so very proud of them. Rose will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her, and her spirit and devotion to all things good will live on forever.
She is survived by her son Ryan Roberts of Waymart; her grandchildren Thomas Roberts, Melanie Roberts and Gabriel Pieros, also of Waymart; a brother Blaise Palko and his wife Lucy, Lake Ariel; sister Julia Martzen and her husband James, Waymart; her sister Catherine De Fazio and husband Rick of Lake Ariel; brother Louis Palko and his companion Vicki, of Jacksonville, Florida; as well as several loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation is entrusted to the Jenkins-Howell Funeral Home, Inc. Edward R. Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472. www.JenkinsHowellFuneralHome.com
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at a later date.
She will be interred at Keen cemetery in Waymart.
