Raymond F. Hoerning

Raymond Fred Hoerning of Honesdale PA passed away on May 20, 2023 after a prolonged battle with Multiple Myeloma.

Ray was born to Fritz and Beatrice Hoerning on March 23, 1944.  He grew up in Roselle Park, NJ with brothers Charlie and Art and graduated Roselle Park High School as a member of the class of 1962. In 1971 he married Ella Sue Saunders and they had two children Tim and Elena.  After retirement they moved to Honesdale, PA to get a space in the country and build Ray’s dream garage.  

Ray was an avid car enthusiast.   In his youth, he worked with pit crews on Super Stock Dodge dragsters and Formula Ford race cars (when he wasn’t working on his 1962 Studebaker Lark Daytona).  After starting to raise a family, his wrenching turned to customizing a 1971 VW micro-bus turned camper (with a V6 Chevy Engine!).    When not in the garage working on cars, Ray was in his woodshop building furniture or other projects.  Later in life he took to collecting and repairing his collection of clocks.

As a father he was always there to support his children and grandchildren, especially if they needed advice on cars.  He will always be remembered for his prankster attitude and quick comebacks.

He is survived by his wife Ella; their son Timothy Hoerning of Long Valley, NJ, his wife Larissa, and their four children, Maiju, Sosi, Enzo & Zephyrne; their daughter Elena Wlazlowski of Manahawkin, NJ, her husband Jeffrey and their two children Caleigh & Kyle.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Ray to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (lls.org)

The family is also planning a remembrance ceremony in June nearer to his home and family in New Jersey.
