Patricia Mae Eldred, 80, of Equinunk passed away Monday evening, December 9, 2024 at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton after a sudden illness. Her loving husband of more than 37 years, Leon Eldred Sr. survives her. They were married on April 14, 1987 in the Pine Mill United Methodist Church and shared more than 50 years together.
Born March 17, 1944 in Peckville, she was the daughter of the late Millard and Mildred Evans Price.
Patricia was a graduate of Carbondale High School. A faithful and devoted Christian, she was a member of the Pine Mill and Central United Methodist Churches. She was also an active organizer, member, and participant of the Pine Mill Cowboy Church. Patricia was a proud member of the Equinunk Volunteer Fire Co since 1988 and served as the Fire Police Lieutenant for many years. She always enjoyed serving the community and the fire company in this way. Patricia was a dedicated mother who loved family more than anything. Her nurturing love included and extended beyond her own children; this was perhaps best exemplified in her being a foster parent to more than 50 children throughout her lifetime.
Many years ago, Patricia was a waitress at Cordaro's Diner. It was there that she met Leon Eldred, and in his smiling words, "she kept giving me more and more coffee till I finally took her home." The rest, as they say, is history. Patricia later worked at Walmart in Honesdale where she was a well known and beloved cashier. She enjoyed countless friendships there throughout the years.
She will forever be remembered for the love she had for her family and her unique ability to know how best to handle each of her children, and keep them in line. Patricia's memory will never be forgotten.
Patricia is also survived by 10 children: David P. Giles of Waymart, Lynda M. MacMaster of Equinunk, James A. Giles of Ashland, Tami L. Giles and her husband Michael Hardler of Honesdale, Debbra L. Schlosser and her husband Robert of Shippensburg, Robert G. Eldred and his wife Gabrielle of Equinunk, Tammy L. Powell and her husband Ralph of Lake Huntington, NY, Barbara A.
