Mickey T. Barhite, 69, of Pleasant Mount, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family at his daughter's home in Newville, PA on Friday, February 28, 2025.
Born September 28, 1955 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Martin F. and May M. (Rosemier) Barhite.
Mickey was well known throughout the community as a hardworking and experienced excavator and logger. He owned and operated MTB Excavating for many years. In his youth, Mickey worked on the family farm. His first job off the farm as a young man was at Walczak Lumber Co. in Clifford. Mickey later married his wife Darlene, and together, they started an excavating and haying business making and selling mulch hay.
He was a thoughtful and diligent man who truly enjoyed working hard. Mickey also enjoyed snowmobiling, riding four-wheelers, and going to Penn Cann Speedway with his family. He dearly loved his dog and faithful sidekick, Smokey. The greatest joy in Mickey's life was being a dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa. His memory will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.
Mickey is survived by his daughter, Dawn Van Der Stad and her husband Gary of Newville, PA; three grandchildren, Ashley Burns and her husband Richard, Aaron Van Der Stad, and Justine Van Der Stad; four great-grandchildren, Mickey Thomas Burns, Abel Mills, Addison Mills, and Aiden Mills; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters: Eleanor White, and Shirley Barrows; a brother, Martin P. Barhite; and a son, Thomas Barhite.
A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 10:00 AM in the Indian Orchard Cemetery, 998 Texas Palmyra Highway, Route 6, Honesdale, PA. Everyone attending is asked to go directly to the cemetery on Thursday morning.
Friends and family may visit on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 from 5-8 PM at the Howell Family Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472.
