Marjorie C. Dakey, 97, of Steene, died Friday afternoon, December 6, 2024 at Wayne Woodlands Manor. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Willard H. Dakey on July 11, 2014. They were married on February 6, 1946.
Born May 13, 1927, in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Eva Goodman Compton.
Marjorie was a graduate of Honesdale High School. She was a lifetime member of the Central United Methodist Church in Honesdale where she was actively involved in supporting various projects and ministries, including the XYZ Fellowship. In the early years of marriage, Marjorie worked at home, raising her family. She also owned and operated Dakey's Cabin Land with her husband and his family.
After her children were grown, Marjorie went to work as a medical secretary for Dr. Howard Patton, and later for Wayne Memorial Home Health. Marjorie and Willard enjoyed traveling extensively together, and loved sharing many years of square dancing among friends with the Rare Squares. Above all, Marjorie loved her family. She enjoyed hosting countless family picnics and weekly dinners at her home where she cherished the company of her children, grandchildren, and their families. She will be lovingly remembered for her kindness and dedication to those she loved.
She is survived by a son, Alan Dakey and his wife Diana of Dalton; a daughter, Joyce Bannon of Steene; grandchildren, Mick Jenkins (Amanda), Kurt Jenkins (Caitlin), Shari Franklin (Shaun), Janet Dakey (Brian Potopowicz), Eric Dakey (his fiance, Courtney Van Billiard), Renee Chernin (Rich), James Bannon (Kayla), Gary Barr, and Jessica Jenkins; and several great-grandchildren.
Marjorie was also preceded in death by a beloved daughter, Linda Jenkins; a grandson, Jay Jenkins; and a two sons-in-law, James Bannon and Thomas Jenkins; a brother, Russell Compton; and three sisters, Dorothy Chalone (John), Ruth Lavin (Edward), and Mildred Compton.
The Funeral will be held Friday, December 13, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Howell Family Funeral Home, Inc., Edward R. Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA with Rev. Eric Funk officiating.
Friends may call Thursday, December 12, 2024 from 4-7 PM at the funeral home, and on Friday from 10-11 AM.
Memorial contributions may be made in Marjorie's memory to the Central United Methodist Church, 205 11th Street, Honesdale, PA 18431.
Interment will be in Indian Orchard Cemetery.
