Margaret Brooks Savitz

Margaret Brooks Savitz, 80, of Varden, died Saturday morning December 31, 2016 at Wayne Woodlands Manor, Waymart. Born July 31, 1936 in Varden, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Louise Brooks. Maggie attended South Canaan Elementary and graduated from Waymart High School, Class of 1955. She later attended Wayne Commercial School in Honesdale. Maggie last worked as a greeter at Walmart SuperCenter in Honesdale. She enjoyed life, family, and friends in her later years. Maggie also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and Bingo. Her kids, grandkids, and all those who called her "Ma" were her life and she did everything, and gave all she had to them. She will forever be missed. The family extends their gratitude to the staff of Wayne Woodlands Manor for the wonderful care they provided. She is survived by two children: Kelly (Wayne) Hoherchak of Waymart and Jody (Amy) Savitz of Sterling; grandchildren: Brianna (Chuck) Worlinsky, Tyler and Matthew Savitz, and Ariel and Evan Hoherchak; and several nieces and nephews. Maggie was preceded in death by three brothers: Ralph, Alton, and Layton Brooks; and two sisters: Donna Jones and Marie Coons. Graveside Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at East Canaan Cemetery, St. Tikhon's Road, Waymart, PA 18472 with Pastor Sal Maiorana officiating. Everyone attending is asked to go directly to the cemetery. Friends may visit on Monday, January 2, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.
