Margaret Lilje

Margaret (Margie) Monaghan Lilje passed away peacefully on January 23, 2024. She was 78. Margie was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Alex Lilje; her parents, Frank and Kathryn Monaghan; and her siblings Robert Monaghan, Martin Monaghan, and Molly Monaghan.

Margie was a graduate of Honesdale High School and Marywood University. She began her career at Wayne County Children and Youth Services and later worked for the family business, Lilje's Shoe Store, in Honesdale. Later, she was a social worker at the Delaware Valley Job Corp Center and she retired from Veritas Therapeutic Community in Barryville, New York. Margie was an avid reader and will be remembered by family and friends for her kindness and gentle nature.

Margie is survived by her two children: Tricia (Dan) Guyer and Joel Lilje (Leslie Hunt); grandchildren Noah and Olivia; and siblings Therese Dux, FJ Monaghan, and Michael Monaghan.

Her family would like to express their gratitude to the compassionate staff at Wayne Woodlands Manor who provided dedicated care for Margie over the last 5 years.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 416 Church Street, Honesdale, PA to celebrate the lives of Margaret and her husband, Alex, who passed away on January 25, 2023.

Inurnment will be in St. John the Evangelist Cemetery, Honesdale, at a later date.
