Lewis C. Henshaw (Lefty) died suddenly on Saturday, November 19,2022 at the age of 81 while spending time with family and friends hunting at The Hawks Nest Rod and Gun Club in Winterdale, PA.
He was born on November 29, 1940 to Joseph and Eva (Bayly) Henshaw. Besides his parents he is predeceased by his mother Mary Moore and brother-in-law Reg Wayman.
He is survived by his children Michael, Karen Firmstone and husband Ron, Lyn and wife Caroline, Jennifer Murphy and husband Dean, Frank and Joseph. His grandchildren, Wade and wife Corinne, Hanna, Hunter, Zoey Henshaw and Landon Firmstone. He is also survived by his brother Skip Moser and wife Linda and sister- in- law and nephew, Nancy and Stephen Wayman.
Lew graduated from Waymart High School, attended East Stroudsburg University and went on to start his own business, Henshaw Trucking which he eventually became partners with his son Michael. In addition, he worked as a foreman at Pennsylvania Power and Light for over 35 years and a Canaan Township Supervisor for nearly 40 years.
Lew was a member of many organizations and enjoyed numerous hobbies. He was a member of the Hawks Nest Rod and Gun Club for 54 years, coached and was involved in The Waymart Little League for many years, played basketball with his friends on the Seymour Safely team, was an avid bowler at Valley Lanes for over 30 years, a member of the Waymart Golf league for nearly 40 years, Waymart Lions Club, was proud to be a part of the Pat Walsh Basketball Tournament, Golf Tournament and Scholarship committee.
Lew was on the Federal Bureau of Prisons board, a project supervisor for the Wayne County Prison and was inducted into the Wayne County Sports Hall of Fame.
In retirement he was available everyday but Tuesday, where he would be found at a different golf course in the area with friends.
Lew grew up on Elk Lake and made many memories with friends and family there. He spent countless hours taking his kids and friends tubing and skiing. He also enjoyed ice fishing on Elk Lake and at The St. Lawrence River with his sons, grandsons and friends.
Not one to lose an argument, Lew would boldly offer his advice and wisdom to many and when needed you could “Loogle” anything. He was the guy “who knew a guy” to get things done and was quick to offer help to his friends when needed.
He passed away doing what he loved in a place that gave him peace and happiness, surrounded by friends and family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at 12:00 Noon at The Crossroads Bar and Restaurant, 296 Belmont Tpk., Waymart, PA.
Viewing will be on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 from 4-8 PM at the Howell Family Funeral Home, Inc. in the Jenkins-Howell Chapel, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472, Edward R. Howell, Funeral Director.
Interment will be private and held at a later date.
