Kendal C. Parker, 90, of Waymart passed away Sunday morning, July 2, 2017 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, after an illness. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie (Salvatore) Parker in 2012. Born March 29, 1927 in New York City, he was the son of the late Joseph Kendal Parker and Margaret Mabel (Clarke) Parker. Kendal served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Honesdale. Kendal was also a member of the Waymart American Legion and Waymart Masonic Lodge #542. He was the former owner of Parker’s Elk Lake Tavern. An avid horticulturist, Kendal was a Penn State Master Gardener. He also loved pets, especially dogs, having rescued many since childhood. Kendal is survived by five children: Kenda Ward and her husband Dr. Robert Ward of New York, New York, Thomas W. Parker of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Andrew S. Parker and his wife Yanisa Khongchuay of Bangkok, Thailand, Joseph K. Parker of Waymart, and Michael C. Parker and his wife Carmen Boggs of Roanoke, Virginia; three granddaughters: Cassiah, Kaitlin, and Anneka; a sister, Margaret Parker Kohut of Waymart. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. in Jenkins Funeral Home-Edward Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart PA 18472. Friends and family may visit on Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. A masonic service will be held at 7:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kendal’s memory to The Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Drive, Honesdale, PA 18431. Interment will be Saturday in the Waymart Cemetery at Canaan Corners.
