John Joseph Ryan Jr., 74, of Waymart, died Friday.
He was born on Sept. 4, 1943, in Elizabeth, N.J., to John and Helen (Kernowski) Ryan. John grew up in Roselle Park, N.J., and graduated from Roselle Park High School in 1961. John married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Armstrong, and together they had five children. John was president of Ryan Heating Cooling in Union, N.J., from 1974 until 2014 when he retired.
He was a loving, strong-willed and intellectual man.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn; and their five children, John (Jack) and his wife, Cathy, of Roselle Park, N.J.; Timothy and his wife, Lisa, of Morganville, N.J.; Donovan and his wife, Kristen, of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mary Bosshard and her husband, Brian, of Waymart; and Matthew and his wife Kristine of Ithaca, N.Y.; four brothers, Timothy, Michael, Patrick and Sean; 13 grandchildren, Fale, Michelle, Samantha, Tara, Holly, Connie, Shane, Alana, Dylan, Amelia, Sean, Quincy and Kalmia; and three great-grandchildren, Absidey, Zeryia and Aaden.
John is predeceased by his mother, Helen, and his father, John.
The family plans to have a gathering to celebrate John’s life. The details of the celebration will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Jenkins-Howell Funeral Home Inc., Edward Howell, FD, Supervisor, 269 Belmont St., Waymart.
