Joan (Hiller) Karnick, 86, of South Canaan passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, December 16, 2020 at home, surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her beloved and devoted husband of 65 years, Peter Karnick. They were married in St. Tikhon's Orthodox Church.
Born September 19, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Willis and Louise Hiller. She, along with her ten siblings, was raised in White Mills. Joan retired after 30 years from Loral (Lockheed Martin) in Archbald, PA.
She valued her family and friends and loved passing along our family traditions. Christmas Eve was always a special family gathering. One of her favorite pastimes was gardening and working in her yard. Mom-Mom enjoyed baking and always had fresh cookies ready for her grandchildren. She will be dearly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is also survived by three children, Diane Brace and husband Randal, Chapman Lake, Paula Herzog and husband David, South Canaan, and Daniel Karnick and wife Ann Marie of Waymart; eight grandchildren, Stacy Davitt, Carissa Brace, Jennifer Green and husband Morgan, Josh Herzog and wife Alyssa, Kaitlyn Schneider and husband Jody, Mitchell Herzog, Lucas Karnick, and Jacob Karnick; nine great-grandchildren, Mia, Olivia, Shaylee, Hayley, Matthew, Shawn, Shea, Samson, and Amelia; a brother Robert Hiller and wife Joann; four sisters, Jean Stephenson and husband Douglas, Helen Griebel, Rose Hicks and husband Edward, Barbara Brickler and husband Thomas; sister-in-laws, Elfreide Hiller, Lorraine Hiller, and Clarice Karnick, and brother-in-law Paul Karnick.
She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Willis, Thomas, Roland, Gerald, and Burt Hiller.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joan's memory to a local organization or charity of the donor's choice.
Due to the current health guidelines, funeral services will be private; there will be no public viewing. In the spring, when the health crisis is resolved, a memorial service will be held at St. Tikhon's Monastery for all to attend; the date and time will be announced when it is scheduled.
Burial will be private in St. Tikhon's Cemetery, South Canaan.
