Jeanette W. Rutledge, 90, of Lakewood passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family on Friday afternoon, March 10, 2023 at home. Her beloved husband of 62 years, Donald Rutledge preceded her in death in 2010.
Born June 15, 1932 in Galilee, she was one of eight children, the daughter of the late Lorenzo and Cora White.
For 72 years, Jeanette lived on the family farm on Rutledge Road in Preston Township where together, she and Donald, raised four children and built a beautiful legacy of love, hard work and dedication. Jeanette spent the early years of her marriage working along side Donald on their dairy farm and as a homemaker, but eventually went on to be a housekeeper at Block Vacation Camp and the Lakewood Lodge.
Jeanette is survived by a son, Leroy Rutledge of Lake Como; two daughters, Linda Wiebel of Bloomsburg, and Karen Sampson of Creamton; a sister, Marge Schwab; and a brother, Byron White; eight grandchildren, Michael, Jason, and Aaron Rutledge, Marge Burden, Gary and Brian Wiebel, Angie Romancito, and Jamie Myers; eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Roger Rutledge; a grandson, Robby Potter, and brothers and sisters, Helen, Evelyn, Melvin, Jack, and Richard.
Jeanette will be remembered by many for her beautiful flower gardens in the front yard of the farmhouse, her love of birds, and her years of service to the Northern Wayne Fire Company through afghan bingo, working in the kitchen, and the pie stand at the Lakewood Carnival. Each summer Jeanette would look forward to joining her brothers, sisters and other relatives at the White Family Reunion and as soon as one was over, she would begin looking forward to the next one. In her retirement years Jeanette loved to sit on her front porch and watch her son and grandsons working on the family farm. She had unwavering devotion to her family, and her grand children were the apple of her eye. She shared her love through holiday dinners, many meals in her crock-pots, and Christmas celebrations that were as special as she was. Jeanette was known near and far for her nut roll that she shared with many every Christmas season.
The family farm embodied five generations of Rutledge's, all working from the land, loving family, and sharing a mutual devotion to each other.
Jeanette's family extends immense gratitude to each and every one of her care givers that spent time with her, made daily visits and lived with her in her home over the past eleven years. The love, dedication and care that they shared was unmatched, and undoubtedly contributed to the quality of her life.
