Jake Suierveld, 71, passed away at home the morning of August 10th, 2016 after a heroic 3 1/2 year battle with cancer. He is now free of the pain.
Born on January 18, 1945 in Mt. Kisco, NY, he was the son of the late Jacob and Gertrude Suierveld. In 1980 he married Kathleen Roche in Waymart, PA. They have two daughters.
In 1979, Jake bought a tavern on Elk Lake in Waymart and called it "Jake's Place". He loved chatting and visiting with the customers and making them laugh with his quick and witty comebacks. Jakes loud, bellowing laugh was recongnizable in any room he was in. The business he loved so much is still open today; his two daughters and son-in-law Andy are currently running operations. His other loves included cleaning house on the card tables- whether in Atlantic City or local casinos, riding his Harley, and most of all spending time with his grandsons.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Kathleen Suierveld, Waymart. His two daughters; Nadine and husband Andy Miszler of Waymart , and Jackie and husband Joe Henshaw of Waymart.
The family would like to send many thanks to the staff at Allied Services Hospice for the care and generosity that was shown for Jake and his family during the past week; especially Karen, Maureen, Lorraine and David.
As per Jake's wishes there will be no formal service. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date to celebrate the joyful and amazing man he was.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Jenkins Funeral Home-Edward Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472. www.jenkinshowellfuneralhome.com
