Jack William Silberlicht, age 86, died of cancer in his sleep on the morning of September 18, 2016 at Geisinger Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre, PA, with his wife, Joan Potter Shaffer Silberlicht by his side. Funeral services are being arranged through Jenkins Funeral Home-Edward Howell, Funeral Director, and will be held graveside at Beth Israel Cemetery on Tuesday, September 20, at 4 p.m., where he will be interred next to his late wife, Judith Newman Silberlicht. Jack was born on April 3, 1930 in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Henry and Esther Silberlicht. He attended Cranford Senior High School while installing and repairing televisions in order to help his mother support their family. He joined the army upon graduation and served as a radio repair technician during the Korean Conflict. After he was discharged he married Judith Newman in 1954. They lived briefly in Waltham, Mass., before settling in Honesdale, Penn., where they lived and raised a family until her death in 1977. He remained in Honesdale and married Joan Potter Shaffer on July 5, 2002. Jack and Joan continued to live in Honesdale for many years, later dividing their time between Honesdale and Lake Hawkins, Tex. Jack was deeply committed to helping others. He was heavily involved with the Civil Air Patrol and was a life member of Hose Company No. 1 serving as a Fire Police Lieutenant in Honesdale. For many years he was co-owner of Newman’s, a family clothing store, and he had his own printing business that he ran from his home. He traveled North America extensively in his 1967 Dodge motor home with his young family, graduating to a deluxe motor home later in life, in which he continued his travels with his wife, Joan. He is survived by his wife, Joan Potter Shaffer Silberlicht; his four children, Joe Silberlicht, Ellen Silberlicht, Ann Silberlicht and Joan Silberlicht Epstein; four grandchildren, Max Silberlicht, Jacob Silberlicht, Noah Epstein and Judith Epstein; his daughter-in-law, Sandra Lee Fenske, and his sons-in-law, David Potter and Ari Epstein; stepsons, Ted Shaffer, Tim Shaffer, Rick Shaffer and Mike Shaffer and their spouses, 10 stepgrandchildren, and 12 step great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Martha Silberlicht, his brother, Irwin Silberlicht and his stepdaughter, Robyn Shaffer Howell.
