Edward Schumacher

Edward L. Schumacher, 82, of Waymart, formerly of Florida, died peacefully on Sunday morning, February 23, 2025 at home.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eileen Schumacher; and later, his second wife, Darline Schumacher.

Born March 3, 1942 in Staten Island, New York, he was the son of the late Edward and Dorothy (Fischer) Schumacher.

Always adventurous and outgoing, Ed ended his time in high school early to enlist in the United States Navy in 1960. He proudly served on the USS Kitty Hawk and enjoyed those years immensely. His military career spanned until 1965 upon his honorable discharge.

Ed later worked for the B & O Railroad on Staten Island where he was a bridge foreman. Later in life, he was a truck driver and experienced life in the truck in every state, except Alaska and Hawaii, as he frequently mentioned. Ed always made friends regardless of where he was; he also made an impression everywhere he went. He was well known far and wide, and happily traveled anywhere the wind took him. Ed had many important people in his life, including friends in Florida, and several other states, that were like family to him. Ed was an avid gun enthusiast. He also dearly loved his dogs. He was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by four children: Denise Schumacher of New Port Richey, Florida, Ed Schumacher and his wife Kim of Waymart, Dawn Feldman of Easton, and William Schumacher and his wife Bernadette of Waymart; two step-sons: Jeff Swartz and his wife Vinessa, and Steve Swartz; a sister, Gail Zafarana; several grandchildren including: Heather, Eddie, Jessica, Kenny, Billy, Breanna, Vandie, Jessa, and Jerra; and a great-granddaughter, Madelyn.

Ed was also preceded in death by a step-daughter-in-law, Cathy Swartz.

In accordance with Ed's wishes, following cremation, a Celebration of Life for friends and family will be held at a later date.
