Doris M. Day

Doris M. Day, 100, of Honesdale, went home to be with her Savior on Sunday morning, February 18, 2024 in her home. Born March 16, 1923 in Binghamton, New York, she was the daughter of the late Ellis and Edna (Rauner) Maudsley. Her husband, Maurice Day preceded her in death in 1999. 

Doris was a 1940 graduate of Hancock High School. She and her husband settled in Honesdale and owned Day's Bakery for many years where Doris became a beloved icon within the community. Doris was known especially for her cake decorating, her strong work ethic, and her generosity. Doris was the matriarch of her family and was a caregiver to many others. She was a faithful member of Central United Methodist Church in Honesdale and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by two daughters: Carolyn Love and her husband Bobby of Virginia, and Lois Day of Pittston, PA; a daughter-in-law, Treva J. Day of South Canaan; nine grandchildren: David Booths (Dee), Josey Allen (Tom), Michael Booths, Jay Love, Tracy Sanchez (Edmundo), Dr. Stephen Day, Laurie Wagner (Don), Renee Fries (Kyle), and Crystal Kotlowski (John); 15 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two sons: Edwin E. Day, and Maurice "Elmer" Day, Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Karen Day; a grandson, Eddie Booths; a brother, Louis Maudsley; and a sister, Elsie Hathaway.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the Wesley Room at Central United Methodist Church, 205 11th Street, Honesdale PA 18431 with Pastor Eric Funk officiating.

Friends and family may visit on Friday from 10:00 - 11:00 AM in the Wesley Room at the church.

Interment will be private in Bethany Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Doris' memory to the Central United Methodist Church, 205 11th Street, Honesdale, PA 18431 or, the charity of the donor's choice.
