Charles B. Marion, 91, of Honesdale was born in Hoadleys on July 3, 1926 to Edward and Helen Bryant Marion. He passed away Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Wayne Woodlands Manor, after a brief illness. His wife of 53 years, Carla Rowles Marion, preceded him in death on February 5, 2001. They were married on August 27, 1947. Charlie took wonderful care of her during her 8 month illness.
He is survived by one daughter, Helen and her husband Charles A. Dennis. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward and is survived by a brother Walter and his wife; and several nieces and nephews.
Charlie served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on various troop transport ships in the South Pacific. He traveled thru the Panama Canal and Suez Canal and was on many islands during the war. He worked as a shipper at Katz Underwear Factory for almost 49 years and also worked for a short time at Squibb Pharmaceutical Company in New Brunswick, NJ in the early years of marriage. They soon decided they liked the country life better and moved back to Honesdale. After Charlie retired he volunteered for 12 years for the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce with the Stourbridge Line Railroad as a Conductor. He often said that he never had his picture taken so much as he did during his railroad days.
He and his wife loved children, and they were like grandparents to many of the kids in their neighborhood. Charlie also loved his cats, Princess and Elvira. A man of many talents, he also enjoyed woodworking and spent many hours working on find-a-word puzzles. Charlie’s main hobby was his cars, of which he had many. Over the years he owned 20 new vehicles; mostly Fords. After his wife of 53 years passed, he relocated to his daughter’s home and lived there until his recent illness. He was of Baptist faith.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Wayne Woodlands Manor and Wayne Memorial Hospice who provided much comfort and support during Charlie’s final days.
