Betty J. (Bone) Waters
Betty was born September 25, 1927, daughter of the late Claude and Helen Bone in Varden, PA. She passed from this life aged 90 years on August 16, 2018, one day shy of the fourth anniversary of the passing of her husband of 68 years, George Kilmer Waters Sr.
George and Betty married in 1946 and settled in Waymart where they raised seven children. The consummate homemaker and mother, she was a terrific cook and baker. She possessed a remarkable green thumb and enjoyed gardening for over 60 years as is evidenced today by her home where something is always in bloom. Betty was held in high regard by all who had the good fortune to know her.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Waymart, serving as its treasurer for years; the American Legion Auxiliary; secretary of the Susquehanna Chapter of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Harriet Greene Chapter.
She is survived by her children, George K. Waters Jr., Waymart; Rorie Lee and husband Ross Goldberg, Maine; Gary Michael Waters and wife Jean, Waymart; Jory Kevin Waters and wife Jane, Bethany; and Jere Waters, Waymart. Also her grandchildren, George Waters III, Nicole Waters-Hettes, Rachel Waters-Hilty, Erin Waters-Trasatt, Kelly Waters, Sean Waters, Kendra Waters, Andy Iovacchini, Alyssa Iovacchini, Alex Iovacchini, Michael Iovacchini and Alyson Iovacchini; great-grandchildren, Mia Waters, Patrick and Kerry Dickel, Marshall Hettes and Arly Rae Trasatt and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Brett Lee Waters; a daughter, Kerry Jo Waters; brothers William Bone, Robert Bone and sister Carol Utter.
The family would like to thank Doctor Allen Orehek and his staff, HHCP Hospice, Sinclair Homecare, all the ladies who worked nightly over the last four years and Jennifer Sheean, who cared for Betty as one of her own for two and a half years.
Most especially Jean Waters, RN, without her professionalism, compassionate care and guidance, it would not have been possible for the family to keep George and Betty in their home over the past decade.
It is a mercy that she is free of the terrible grip of Alzheimer’s.
There will be no public viewing. Interment Canaan Corners Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation, the Dessin Animal Shelter or the charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements are entrusted to Jenkins-Howell Funeral Home, Inc., Edward Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont St. Waymart, PA 18472. www.JenkinsHowellFuneralHome.com
