Abe Lamberton

January 1, 1950 — January 6, 2019

James Abe Lamberton, 68, of Waymart, Clinton Township, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, January 6, 2019 at Allied Services Hospice Center in Scranton, after an extended illness. His beloved wife, the former Joan A. Romich survives him.  They were married on July 7, 1979 at Uncle Walter’s cabin on the Delaware River.

Born November 16, 1950 in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Abe and Reva (Horst) Lamberton.

Abe graduated from Waymart High School in 1969.  He went on to serve his country in the United States Army and was a Vietnam veteran.  Abe was inducted at age 19 on February 10, 1970 in the 101st Airborne Division. His tour in Vietnam spanned from June 26, 1970 through September 15, 1971; he continued to serve in the Army Reserves until 1976. In April of 1971, Abe was awarded The Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces.

After marrying Joan in 1979, Abe went on to remain active in various community organizations including the Calvary United Methodist Church, the Waymart American Legion, Waymart Masonic Lodge #542 F&AM, the Waymart Lions Club and the Disabled American Veterans. Abe worked for several local companies where he was a heavy equipment operator. He was well known throughout the community, and was a friend to all he knew.  He will be greatly missed.

Abe is also survived by three children:  Jesse James Lamberton and his companion Kelli of Fresno, CA, Melissa Davis and her husband Brian of Mount Cobb, and Michael Naholnik and his wife Maria of Clarks Summit; five grandchildren:  Gracyn and Dawcyn Davis, Jacob and Colton Naholnik, and E.G. Walden; three sisters:  Linda Baldwin and her husband John of South Canaan, Katie Briski of California, and Dr. Lorna Johns and her husband Kim of Waymart; several nieces and nephews; many friends, and large extended family.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Belva Puerile. 

In accordance with his wishes, following cremation, there will be no memorial services.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Abe’s memory to Calvary United Methodist Church, PO Box J, Waymart, PA 18472, Allied Services Hospice Center, 511 Morgan Highway, Scranton, PA 18508, or www.companionsforheroes.org.

His family wishes to extend gratitude to VNA Hospice and Home Health for helping to provide excellent and compassionate care while Abe was at home in the recent months.
