Richard John Gelderman

Richard John Gelderman, age 57, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2022 due to natural causes. He was raised and lived in Hawley, PA, and later moved to Columbia SC. Richard was born on September 22, 1964 in Philadelphia, PA. He was the son of the late Charles and Patricia (Degroat) Gelderman. Richard attended Wallenpaupack High School. He had a long career as a chef at multiple restaurants and country clubs, and was most well-known for his time at Lords Valley Country Club. Most recently, he was an over the road truck driver for Marten Transportation. Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, NASCAR races, camping, playing poker, horseshoes, riding his Harley and having big cookouts with family and friends. He is survived by his three daughters: Shawna and husband Joseph Meyers of Lake Ariel, PA, Kayla and husband John Dixon of Waymart, PA, Jasmine Gelderman and her mother Laura of Columbia, SC who was Richard’s wife of over twenty years; 6 granddaughters; and 3 grandsons.; his brother, David Gelderman and wife Tammie of Boone, NC; sister, Nancy Armstrong and her husband Joel of Butler, TN; and several nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Dan and wife Sandy Gelderman; and his sister, Martha Adams-Birtel. Memorial Services in South Carolina will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at 11:00 at Elmwood Cemetery, 501 Elmwood Ave. Columbia, SC 29201. Local Graveside Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 4:30 PM in the Arlington Cemetery, 1491 Hamlin Highway, Lake Ariel, PA 18436. All attending are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Local arrangements are entrusted to Edward R.
